While Fujifilm users had some good news in the form of a firmware update, Sony enthusiasts may be disappointed to learn that the company has temporarily halted the production of the RX1R II premium compact camera for unknown reasons. According to Sony Japan, an update will be posted by mid-January 2016 on the official Sony homepage.
The RX1R mark II was the final camera that Sony announced this year. The premium compact camera received a substantial upgrade; it has the same 42MP full-frame sensor and hybrid AF system as the A7r II, and a built-in pop-up EVF like the RX100 series. It also introduced the world’s first optical variable low-pass filter.
The camera was supposed to be available in December but we now know this won’t be the case. There aren’t any complete reviews of the camera yet and at this point, some time might pass before we’ll see one. Steve Huff posted his first impressions but hasn’t finished the full review yet. Some customers who pre-ordered have already received their camera but so far no one has mentioned any significant issues.
