French filmmakers and travellers Claire & Max of the Menilmonde blog recently asked themselves the following question:
What if everything that surrounds us were fake? What if our environment were nothing but a simple cinema set?
It didn’t take them long to apply this concept to one of their unorthodox videos about Paris, a city very close to their hearts. Their idea was to rework the city’s buildings and monuments in post-production to make them resemble facades from a giant film set.
Throughout the 4 minute clip entitled “Appearances,” you see a range of architecture that appears to have no support but the wooden beams propped up behind it, from monuments as famous as the Arc de Triomphe and the Eiffel Tower to lesser known buildings around the city. Most of the people have either been removed or left as translucent shadows. The entire video took a total of two months to complete and was filmed with the Panasonic Lumix GH4 with a 12-28mm in 4K.
