Mathieu Stern uses a 136 year old lens on the Sony A7 II with great results

We all know that the Sony A7 series of cameras is well-suited to adapting manual focus lenses but French photographer Mathieu Stern has taken the concept to another level. In his latest Weird Lens Challenge, which started with a 105 year old lens from a folding camera, Mathieu adapts a 136 year old metal lens from a large format camera to his A7 II. According to his description of the lens, it is one of the first with an internal iris.

Looking at the black and white footage that comprises the first half of the video, you really feel as if you’ve been transported back to the early 1900s. There is something about the rendering that summons memories of a simpler time, even though the sensor being used could not be more modern.

As I mentioned before, this isn’t the first “weird lens” challenge Mathieu has done. In total, there are three videos in the series and he doesn’t show any sign of stopping.
