Using the Sony a6300 for Wedding Photography by Heiko Schmidt

One of the first people to write about using the Sony a6300 specifically for wedding photography was German photographer Heiko Schmidt. In his article, he describes how he switched to the Sony A7 full-frame series from Nikon two years ago, but was on the verge of switching back because of the less-than-stellar autofocus performance of the A7 and A7s. It was only when he bought the a6300 and experienced its hybrid autofocus system that he decided to give Sony another chance.

For weddings, he likes how he can get close to people without them caring because of the small and understated appearance of the Sony body. He also enjoys the fact that the camera doesn’t make any noise in silent mode. As for the autofocus performance, he states that the continuous AF does a great job of following moving subjects, and the eye-tracking makes it easy to lock onto the eye of the person you’re shooting.

Interestingly, his wife Cati is still a faithful Nikon shooter, and while she wasn’t convinced by the A7 series, she has shown an interest in testing the a6300 more extensively!
