One of our favourite lenses for the Sony FE system is the 90mm f/2.8 macro lens. It is fairly big and heavy but benefits from optical stabilisation, lots of controls on the barrel and sharpness than is unrivalled in its category.
Another reviewer who enjoyed the lens so much that he purchased one for himself is Michael Comeau. In his recent review, he describes the 90mm as the “king of macro”, praising its optics, autofocus, ergonomics and image stabilisation.
Although Michael enjoys macro, one of the primary reasons he bought this lens was for portraits. In his conclusion, he states that the Zeiss Batis 85mm is probably the better choice if all you shoot is portraits but the 90mm is the way to go if macro interests you as well.
