Are you keen on having a dream-like, ethereal look from your images right out of the camera? If so, you might want to check out Joe Turic’s recent review of the Lensbaby Velvet 56mm for Micro 4/3s on his website Less Gear || More Photos. This lens is anything but your run-of-the-mill portrait companion. As Joe states in his review:
The Velvet 56 can do it all. It’s a stunning portrait lens at all apertures, a creative effects lens at large apertures (f/2.8, f/2, f/1.6) and a beautiful macro lens that can focus as close as 5 inches.
Though the version Joe reviewed is for the Micro Four Thirds mount, it is also available for Fuji X, Sony E, Samsung NX, Canon EF, Nikon F, Sony Alpha A, and Pentax K.
To accompany the review, Joe has also included some nice sample images showing the unique appearance of the bokeh at the fastest apertures. Personally speaking, the effect produced by the lens isn’t exactly my style but I can see how photographers would have good fun using this lens to a creative end.
