David Kilpatrick had the chance to test the new 10mm f/5.6 and 15mm f/4.5 by Voigtländer for one night during the UK Photography Show in Birmingham. Instead of taking images inside the show, David walked around the NEC venue and took some additional pictures in the evening and the following morning before giving the lens back to the UK distributor Flaghead Photographic.
David, who has more than 40 years of experience testing photography gear, had the chance to test both the M-mount versions (on the Leica M 240) and the E-mount versions on the A7r II. His first impressions are quite positive regarding both lenses. About the 10mm he says:
This lens displays an exceptionally straight geometry, even when used on the Leica M 240 body which has no added firmware correction function.
His thoughts about the new 15mm are even more enthusiastic – he states it is one of the best lenses he has ever used. He also says that the 15mm is sharper than the 10mm according to his initial findings. We can also notice some vignetting in some of the shots taken with the 10mm.
David’s images are available in full resolution for private viewing and evaluation. The post is also complete with lots of information about the two lenses and their design.
