The best mirrorless April Fools’ Day jokes of 2016!

As tradition goes, April 1st is the day both brands and individuals share fake news, rumours and announcements. Some of them are funny and aren’t meant to be taken seriously while others take the game more seriously, hoping to fool people right up until the day comes to an end.

Below we’ve gathered some of the funniest April Fools’ Day news we came across today in the mirrorless world. Hopefully, they produce a laugh or two!

Olympus new art filter: the dog filter

Olympus UK released a new art filter for their OM-D and Pen cameras. It allows you to take a picture of a person and render a canine companion that’s best suited to your photographic situation. They even produced a video that explains how it works. Well done, Olympus!

Nikon D-Voice: control your camera by speaking to it!

Here’s another funny idea we spotted on the Nital page (Nikon Italy distributor). Nikon released a new accessory called D-Voice. It is a little microphone that comes in four different colors. You attach it to the camera’s hot-shoe (it is also compatible with the 1 system). Just as you would with Siri on your iPhone or Google Voice on Android, you can simply  say “shoot” or any other word you previously saved in the D-Voice internal memory to take a shot. The faster you speak, the faster your camera will take the shot. You can save an unlimited number of vocal commands to use for various shooting modes. The D-voice doesn’t need an external battery and comes with a windshield. You can check out the original announcement page here.

The mini A7r II

TheDigitalDigest shared this hands-on video about the new Sony A7r II Mini. It has the same capabilities as the original A7r II but comes in a much smaller package. And that’s what we like about mirrorless cameras, right? 🙂

Sony develops the world’s first ghost-catching device

Perhaps because there is a remake of the original Ghostbusters movie currently in production, Sony announced the world’s first ghost catching device. Called the Proton-Pack, it is designed to capture ectoplasmic matter from another dimension. The device incorporates some of the most advanced technology seen on Sony’s mirrorless camera:

The Proton Pack™ integrates the same super slow motion capture capability as Sony’s Cyber-shot RX series premium compact cameras, allowing users to capture the matter in 960 frames-per-second high frame rates and accurately record the movement of its target.

You can find out more about it in the video below and by reading the official press release.
