On December 8th, Panasonic released a firmware update that made five more lenses in the Lumix range compatible with the GX8’s Dual I.S. (image stabilisation), giving us a total of 11 compatible lenses. The updated lenses are as follows:
- Lumix 45mm f/2.8 Macro
- Lumix 12-32mm f/3.5-5.6
- Lumix 35-100mm f/4.0-5.6
- Lumix 45-150mm f/4.0-5.6
- Lumix 42.5mm f/1.7
The Dual I.S. system of the GX8 combines the optical stabilisation of the lenses with the in-body stabilisation of the camera, providing extra handshake correction. In our experience, it is nearly on par with the 5-axis in-body stabilisation of the Olympus OM-D series, though the performance does seem to vary a little from lens to lens. If you own the GX8 and any one of these lenses, it is definitely worth updating!
