An excellent comparison I recently came across was conducted by ILoveHatePhoto, a website that focuses on Sony E-mount reviews. Edward (the author) puts two fairly recent wide-normal primes for the Sony E-mount system – the Zeiss Batis 25mm f/2 and the Sony FE 28mm f/2 – head-to-head in a real-world situation, the Orange County County Fair!
In each section, the author compares the performance of the two lenses, touching upon distortion, vignetting, sharpness, and so on. Even though the Zeiss beats the Sony in his tests, he concludes by saying:
Although the Sony 28mm f/2 is bested in three categories, it came in a close second and is only a third of the price of the Zeiss Batis 25mm f/2. On paper, the Sony makes the most sense for being the better bang for its buck.
What I particularly like about this comparison is that Edward makes it more approachable by starting each section with a brief anecdote about the location and the activities going on at the fair.
