Fujifilm announcements:
X-Pro2 – X-Pro1 vs X-Pro2 – X70 – X-E2s and X-E2 firmware 4.0 – XF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6
With the arrival of the M.Zuiko 300mm, Lumix 100-400mm and now the XF 100-400mm, one could safely say that 2016 is shaping up to be the year of the mirrorless telephoto lens.
Covering an equivalent focal length of 152-609mm on full-frame, the new XF 100-400mm comprises 21 elements in 14 groups with 5 extra low dispersion elements and 1 super extra low dispersion element to reduce chromatic aberration that often occurs with telephoto lenses. It has a linear motor for fast moving subjects and a fluorine coating has also been applied to the front lens element to repel water and dirt. Along with being dust, freeze and water resistant, it will have a built-in image stabilisation system with 5 stops of compensation, a filter size of 77, and a minimum focus distance of 1.75m that remains constant throughout the whole zoom range. The lens is also compatible with the XF1.4X TC WR Teleconverter (213-853mm equivalent, f/6.3-f/8).
The new lens will weigh 1375g, making it one of the heaviest XF lenses to date, and will cost just under $1,900 US. We can expect to see it in stores in February as well.
