Leica has just announced a new generation of classic Leica M lenses with improved performance and a more robust construction. The three lenses that have received this update are: the Summicron-M 35mm f/2 ASPH, Summicron-M 28mm f/2 ASPH and the Elmarit-M 28mm f/2.8 ASPH.
Not only do these lenses feature an enhanced optical design resulting in better image performance and quality, but they also come with a a full metal rectangular lens hood with a thread mount, metal lens cap and threaded protection ring for the front of the lens when the hood isn’t attached.
Regarding the improvements expected from these lenses, the Summicron-M 35mm f/2 promises a smoother bokeh thanks to the circular aperture, while the Summicron-M 28mm f/2 should have superior image quality across the entire image field. As for the Elmarit-M 28mm, it is said to have reduced image field curvature with improved image performance in terms of resolution and detail.
The Summicron-M 28mm and the Elmarit-M 28mm are both scheduled for release at the end of January 2016 while the Summicron-M 35mm will come in February.
