Tamron has officially announced the development of the 28-75mm f/2.8 Di III RXD, a new high-speed standard zoom and the first lens from the brand designed specifically for the Sony E-mount (full-frame system).
The 28-75mm is a compact moisture-resistant zoom lens, measuring 117mm in length and weighing 550g. It promises superb optical performance and a beautiful background blur thanks in part to the constant f/2.8 aperture, and will have a minimum focus distance of 19cm (7.5 inches) at the widest angle.
It features a new high-speed AF driving system which, in conjunction with the RXD stepping motor, will allow the lens to be both quiet and precise, even for video use. It is also compatible with Sony’s “Direct Manual Focus (DMF)” system, meaning it can take full advantage of the advanced MF functions of E-mount cameras.
This announcement is big news for Sony as it clearly demonstrates the interest of an increasing number of third-party lens manufacturers in the E-mount and the full-frame system. Hopefully the 28-75mm is just the first of many more interesting (and affordable) lenses to come!
