During his recent trip to Sony HQ in Japan, Johnnie Behiri of Cinema5D had the opportunity to interview Yutaka Iwatsuki, the senior manager for product planning. The interview covers a number of topics, from the future of the DSLR market to more specific questions about Sony A7 series cameras such as the overheating issues, low-light performance and video recording capabilities of the latest models.
One of the most notable statements he makes concerns the term “mirrorless” and what it has come to define. When mirrorless cameras were first released, the focus was purely on having small bodies and lenses. Now that the technology has advanced, the term has come to embody three essential characteristics: a combination of high quality, small size and light weight.
The interview was conducted in video format, and since Mr. Iwatsuki is both very fluent in English and an eloquent speaker, it is a very enjoyable watch.
