Just when it seemed as if Canon had completely forgotten about its mirrorless EOS M system, the company surprised us with a unique announcement: a compact prime designed for macro photography.
The new Canon EF-M 28mm f/3.5 Macro IS STM (44.5mm equivalent in 35mm format) has a maximum magnification of 1.2x and a minimum focusing distance of 3.7″. Since it comes with Hybrid IS image stabilisation, it should be easier to avoid camera shake at close distances.
However, the most interesting feature is the integrated LED light. It has been designed to provide additional illumination to close-up subjects, and configured to illuminate only the right or left side, or both sides, in order to produce greater visual depth and reduce shadows.
