The first Sony a6300 reviews start to emerge from Miami Beach

Yesterday and today, Sony held a follow-up press event in Miami Beach but it wasn’t for a new camera or lens announcement for once! Here, 30 journalists from around the world were invited to try the new a6300 along with two of the new GM lenses for the Sony E-mount, the 24-70 f/2.8 and the 85 f/1.4. There were many sets that covered a variety of genres, including sports, portraits and of course, landscapes given the gorgeous location.

Brian Smith, who is a Sony Artisan of Imagery, shared his first set of images from the event in a blog post. He promises to update the gallery with new images as the day goes on and has provided full-sized versions for visitors to download.

Gordon Laing of Camera Labs has also started putting together his full review of the camera. On his website, he shares his first impressions of the camera and draws some comparisons between it and its predecessor. At one point, he mentioned his disappointment with Sony’s resistance to add a full-articulating touchscreen to the series but he praises the new EVF, AF system and 4K video. He has also posted some 4K video footage taken on the beach in Miami and a growing number of sample images.

Edgar Alvarez of Engadget has posted the third on-going review with some sample images and his first impressions. He states that the AF system is as fast as advertised and that the camera actually feels like an upgrade from the A7r II.

Next up is Ned Soltz of RedSharkNews. Being a videographer, he was obviously most interested in how the a6300’s movie capabilities had improved. He starts the review off by declaring that the video quality is “stunning” and that ISOs up to 3200 are very clean. His biggest criticism goes to the overheating issue when you shoot 4K video followed by a burst of continuous stills.

There are a few other previews out there but these five seem to be the most complete as of today. I’m sure we will begin seeing more reviews appear online as the week progresses!
