Shenyang Zhongyi Optics (ZY Optics) is known for its Speedmaster lens range, an affordable set of fast manual focus primes designed for various mirrorless camera mounts. One of their latest products was the 25mm f/0.95, a very fast and compact standard lens for Micro Four Thirds cameras (see our review on MirrorLessons here). They also produce adapters called Lens Turbo that increase the angle of view of the adapted lens. It is a similar product to the popular Speedbooster series by Metabones but at a more affordable price once again.
Today the Chinese company is releasing three new Lens turbo adapters for Micro Four Thirds cameras. These new adapters are designed for use with 36×24 format lenses with a M42 screw mount, Canon FD mount or Minolta MD mount on M4/3 cameras with a wider angle of view and faster aperture than a traditional adapter would give you (on Micro Four Thirds the crop factor is 2x).
These new adapters are compatible with all cameras featuring a Micro Four Thirds mount and that includes the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera. This is definitely interesting for the Blackmagic since its sensor is smaller than 4/3.
Similar to the previous Lens Turbo (version II), these new turbo adapters include 4 lens elements in 4 groups with 1 extra-low dispersion element to help reduce chromatic aberrations. The angle of view is increased by 0.726x and the maximum aperture will be 1 stop faster.
These new adapters will cost $149 (suggested retail price) and can be purchased from the ZY Optics official website and authorised distributors.
