Joining the FE 90mm f/2.8 macro is the FE 50mm f/2.8 which Sony announced today. This new standard macro prime has a maximum magnification ratio of 1:1, a minimum focus distance of 16cm, and comes with all the bells and whistles you’d expect from a macro lens including a smooth focus ring, a focus limiter switch and an AF/MF switch.
The barrel is dust and moisture resistant and weighs just 236g, making it the perfect fit for both full-frame and APS-C cameras. It features a circular 7-blade aperture, an ED (extra dispersion lens) to reduce chromatic aberrations at close distances, and a 55mm filter thread.
The FE 50mm f/2.8 will be available in October 2016 at the suggested retail price of $498 US.
